Abstract:This research analyzes the feminist construction in news by comparing eight news articles from Ms. Magazine, published by Feminist Majority Foundation with non-feminist newspapers. The news are analyzed by using Lazar’s Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (2005) and Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (1989). This research administers descriptive method which are explored with regard to lexical, grammatical, and text structure analysis. Based on the analysis, the characteristics of feminist news are 1) uses specific metaphors to represent women and oppression, 2) utilizes passive and active voice to frame government as an antagonist character, 3) uses more nominalization than non-feminist newspapers, 4) uses euphemism, repetition, transitivity to strengthen their message to the readers regarding their feminist movement and ideology, 4) uses 6-8 subordinate clauses per sentence, and 5) includes message in every published news for women. Meanwhile, the non-feminist newspapers 1) uses small numbers of metaphors in news, 2) creates government as protagonist character in society, 3) creates power hegemony that put government as the centre, 4) uses 4-5 subordinate clauses per sentence, and 5) uses easification in order to gain readers’ understanding about the issue. These results demonstrate that ideology and target reader contributes a significant role in constructing language use. It also reveals that there is no free-bias media.

===This research analyzes the feminist construction in news by comparing eight news articles from Ms. Magazine, published by Feminist Majority Foundation with non-feminist newspapers.
