Abstract:This study examine the strength of the novel as a site of cultural struggle in maintaining an established culture or forming a new one. This study focuses on the phenomenon of Islamic popular novel resurgence which has been criticized for its mixture of religious values to modern values. Focusing on six Islamic popular novels written by FLP community namely BMdJO, KMPdK, TRtE, BC, AAB!, TM, this study investigates the Islamic ideology expressed and negotiated through a novel influenced by Western modern tradition. The method used in this research is Gramsci's theory of hegemony. This approach to the Islamic popular novel reveals the power of the popular novel as a remarkably effective tool of hegemony. The unity of format and content as a means of struggle arouse a feeling of community and subaltern urging to act quickly. The results of this study indicate that the Islamic popular novel is part of a strategy of Islamic cultural struggle in continuing modernization of Islam as well as Islamisation of modernity since the elimination of political Islam from the political arena. From the six novels, it was found that the format of popular novel puts Muslim in portended condition due to the decline of Islamic empire, underdevelopment of general knowledge, ignorance and Muslim morality as a conflict to the real world. This position urges characters to liberate themselves by making changes (hijra/ consensus) by working hard in the arena of education, trade and the implementation of Islamic teachings such as chastity with taaruf and veiling. Those ideas are consensually accepted because they fulfil the aspiration of the subaltern economically and ideologically. The idea of Islam is placed as the only convincing solution by means of visiting the past (nostalgia) to explore the history and myths to form a solution to the conflict in the real world. The bound to the historical past evokes the feeling of subaltern which prevails upon consensual acceptance of dominant value. The placement of Islamic ideology in the form of realism novel presents authentic evidence of Islamic ideas as the only truthful way. Yet, the format of romanticism and realism in the Islamic popular novel restricts the delivery of the Islamic notion of jihad in the broader meaning because of the limitations of this format to describe the non-material world. As a result, religious formality has more prominent aspect than religious spirituality in the novel. The use of work of art in the cultural struggle allows FLP to play significant ideological and economical roles in the arena of class and ideological struggle both globally and locally. Ideologically, popular novel is used as a tool of hegemony to construct collective will of determined Muslim subject. Through Islamic popular novel, economically, the novel has an exchange value that create jobs for members and the network provides consumers for the production of the novel. The combination of religious value and the form of popular novel become effective and powerful over another hegemony tool in imposing the superstructural values in order to establishing infrastructural power.

Intisari:Penelitian ini menguraikan kekuatan novel sebagai situs perjuangan kebudayaan dalam mempertahankan atau membentuk kebudayaan baru. Penelitian ini berfokus pada fenomena kebangkitan kembali novel populer islami yang sejak kemunculannya dikecam karena perpaduan nilai agama dan nilai modern. Berfokus pada enam novel populer Islami FLP yakni BMdJO, KMPdK, TRtE, BC, AAB!, TM, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki ideologi Islam yang disuarakan oleh FLP serta cara ideologi dinegosiasikan melalui novel yang dipengaruhi oleh tradisi sastra warisan Barat yang modern. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah sosiologi sastra. Salah satu pendekatan sosiologi sastra adalah teori hegemoni Gramsci. Teori hegemoni menempatkan sastra sebagai kekuatan hegemoni yang sangat efektif. Kepaduan format dan isi sebagai alat perjuangan sanggup meluapkan perasaan masyarakat dan mendesak subaltern untuk bertindak cepat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa novel populer Islami merupakan bagian dari strategi perjuangan dalam kelanjutan modernisasi Islam di Indonesia sekaligus islamisasi modern setelah Islam politik terdepak dari arena politik. Dari keenam novel ditemukan bahwa format novel populer menempatkan tokoh Muslim dalam posisi terancam akibat kemunduran kekuasaan Islam, keterbelakangan dari pengetahuan umum, kebodohan serta moralitas Muslim sebagai pertentangan dalam dunia nyata. Posisi ini mendesak tokoh membebaskan diri dengan melakukan perubahan (hijrah/consensus) melalui kerja keras dalam arena pendidikan, perdagangan dan penerapan ajaran Islam seperti menjaga kesucian dengan taaruf dan berjilbab. Gagasan ini berterima dengan suka rela karena memberikan harapan kemapanan pada subaltern secara ekonomi dan secara ideologi. Gagasan Islam ditempatkan sebagai solusi yang meyakinkan dengan cara mengunjugi masa lalu (nostalgia) untuk menggali sejarah dan mitos yang bertujuan menciptakan bentuk solusi dari konflik sekaligus membangkitkan ikatan perasaan subaltern dengan masa lalu. Penempatan ideologi Islam dalam format realisme menghadirkan bukti autentik gagasan Islam. Format romantisisme dan realisme dalam novel populer islami membatasi penyampaian gagasan Islam jihad dalam makna yang lebih luas karena keterbatasan format ini untuk menjelaskan dunia non material. Akibatnya aspek formalitas agama lebih menonjol dari pada spiritual. Penggunaan karya seni dalam pertarungan kebudayaan mengantar FLP memainkan peranan penting dalam arena perjuangan kelas dan ideologi secara nasional dan global. Secara ideologi, novel populer digunakan sebagai alat hegemoni yang membentuk keseragaman kehendak kolektif subjek-subjek Muslim yang mempunyai tekad. Secara ekonomi, FLP menciptakan produk, selera sekaligus pasar melalui jejaring FLP.
